Sunday 24th February 2013


Depart Heathrow airport 21:50 for 13 ¾ hour flight direct to Buenos Aires, British Airways.


Monday 25th February 2013


Arrive Buenos Aires, Argentina.  08:50 local time. Transfer from airport to ship, M.V. Voyager. Leave ship at 15:30 for walk to look over Costanera Sur nature reserve (closed on Mondays). Then to Cabanas las Lillas restaurant for steak meal before returning to ship. Dry, sunny and warm.


Tuesday 26th February 2013


All day at Costanera Sur nature reserve, Buenos Aires, Argentina. Left ship at 08:00, return from ship at 15:00. Dry and sunny all day. Warm. Depart Buenos Aires 18:00.


Wednesday 27th February 2013


Montevideo, Uruguay. Arrive 07:00. Leave ship 08:30 for all day at typical ‘estancia’. Return to ship approximately 17:00. Depart Montevideo 18:00.

At sea from Montevideo to Santos. Dry, sunny and warm.

At sea to Santos. Dry, sunny and warm.


Saturday 2nd March 2013


Santos, Brazil. Arrive 07:30. Half day trip ‘highlights of Santos’ then return to ship, departing 17:30. Dry, sunny and hot.


Sunday 3rd March 2013


Ilhabela Island, Brazil. Arrive 07:00. Half day morning trip by four wheel drive to rainforest. Rather disappointing trip. Afternoon leisurely walk around seafront. Dry sunny and hot.


Monday 4th March 2013


Paraty, Brazil. A lovely day in a beautiful setting. Depart ship 09:00 to half day trip up into Atlantic rainforest. Then to Cachacas distillery then return to town and nice restaurant. Return to ship 17:00. Dry sunny and hot at first, later cloudy and some light rain. Depart 18:30.


Tuesday 5th March 2013


Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Arrive 07:00. Half day trip to botanical gardens and rainforest  by jeep. Return to ship by 14:00. Evening trip to restaurant in town. Live band (Kiko Continentino). Later walk to ship after severe thunder storm during our meal. Night in Rio de Janeiro. Dry, sunny and hot in morning then severe thunder storm in evening.


Wednesday 6th March 2013


Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Morning trip to botanic gardens for longer trip than yesterday. Back to ship by 13:30. Afternoon at leisure. Depart Rio 18:30.

At sea to Salvador.  Dry, sunny and hot.

At sea to Salvador. Dry, sunny and hot.


Saturday 9th March 2013


Salvador, Brazil. Morning trip around city, afternoon at leisure. Hot and sunny. Depart Salvador 18:30.


Sunday 10th March 2013


At sea to Recife. Dry, sunny and warm.


Monday 11th March 2013


Recife, Brazil. Arrive 07:30. Morning trip to Olinda. Afternoon at leisure Dry, sunny and hot. Night in Recife.


Tuesday 12th March 2013


Recife, Brazil, all day. Morning walk to the park. Lazy afternoon. Evening to Spettus beef restaurant. Bright morning, cloudy afternoon, dry sunny and hot.


Wednesday 13th March 2013


Recife, Brazil. Beach all day – south of Recife about 50km to Porto de Galinhas. Visit to world’s largest cashew tree. Depart Recife 18:00.


Thursday 14th March 2013


Natal, Brazil. Arrive 08:00. Half day tour of the city and beach. Depart 14:00. Dry, sunny and warm.


Friday 15th March 2013


Fortaleza, Brazil. Arrive 07:30. Swell prevented berthing at Fortaleza. Therefore continued cruise at 12:00 after taking on supplies by boat.


Saturday 16th March 2013


At sea to Devil’s Island. Cloud and increasing NE breeze and swell.


Sunday 17th March 2013


At sea to Devil’s Island. Cloudy. Increasing NE swell and breeze.


Monday 18th March 2013


Ile Royale, French Guiana.


Managed to make a tendered landing in stiff breeze with Atlantic swell in lee of island. All day walk around island. Arrive 09:30 return to ship 17:30.  Depart 18:30.


Tuesday 19th March 2013


At sea to Macapa, Amazon pilot station. Breezy but dry.


Wednesday 20th March 2013


Amazon river. Crossed river bar 20:00 last night. Crossed equator 07:15 today.  3 ½ hour wait at Macapa for pilot. Cloudy, light showers, warm and humid.


Thursday 21st March 2013


Santarem, Brazil. Arrive 12:00. Then half day trip to Tapajos rainforest reserve. About 1 ½ hours drive from the port. Then walk in pristine rainforest. Retunr to ship for 17:30. Dry, mainly sunny and hot.


Friday 22nd March 2013


Boca de Valeria, Brazil. Arrive 08:00. Depart 14:00. An awful vist to a commercialized village where children line up to ask for money to have photos taken of captured sloths, agoutis, caiman parrots, butterflies, and toucans. Too upsetting for more than a brief visit after which I returned to the ship. Depart 17:00.


Saturday 23rd March 2013


Manaus, Brazil. Arrive 08:00. Trip to rainforest across river and walk in the forest. Enhanced by tropical downpour. Then return to ship and afternoon walk to the Teatro Amazonas. Night in Manaus on ship.


Sunday 24th March 2013


Manaus, Brazil. Morning trip by river boat to other side of Rio Negro to transfer to motorized canoe for ride in Varzea – flooded forest. An excellent experience. Then returned by way of the meeting of the rivers. Then afternoon departure to Manaus airport for flight back to the UK. Drizzle in morning then gradually stopped and some blue sky.
