Caribbean and South American cruise. 24th November - 6th December 2015



I was the naturalist speaker on a cruise entitled “Caribbean and wild northern South America” on board the ship Voyager.


Tuesday 24th November 2015


Depart Gatwick 10am local time on Virgin Atlantic. Arrive on time 14:20 local time, Bridgetown, Barbados. Driven to MV Voyager, arriving 16:00 local time. Temperature 30 degrees C. locally. Partial cloud. Dry.

Wednesday 25th November 2015


‘Coast to coast’ trip as escort with my wife. Depart ship 08:30, visiting Highland, Bethsheba and St. John’s. Return to ship 12:00.  Occasional light rain.

Thursday 26th November 2015


Arrive Scarborough, Tobago 07:45. Depart with my wife and 2 passengers via taxi, calling initially at Hilton hotel complex then moving on to Adventure Farm hummingbird feeder station. Return at 14:30. Cost $140 US.

Saturday 28th November 2015


Arrive Paramaribo 07:30. Met at port by Ottie, and shared car with 2 passengers. Driver as well Went to old coffee plantation – Peper Pot. Had walk in the now protected reserve. Return to ship by 13:00. Hot, humid. Cost $75 for each couple.

Arrive Port of Spain approximately 09:00. Walk round city then afternoon trip to Caroni Swamp. Heavy afternoon shower soon after starting Caroni trip.

Arrive Margarita Island 08:00. Took excursion with armed police escort to ‘farm’ then to town then to ‘conservation centre’ – poor display – Toucans, parrots and caiman in poor cages. Return to ship 14:00 then afternoon at port. Depart 20:00.

Arrive Bridgetown, Barbados 07:30. Unsuccesful trip by taxi to find bird reserve – doesn’t exist so ended up on beautiful beach west of Bridgetown. Return to Gatwick overnight.
