I was a wildlife lecturer and guide on the M.V. Discovery on a cruise from Costa Rica to Chile. I arrived with a friend in Costa Rica on New Year’s Eve 2006, and joined the Discovery on 3rd. January at Puerto Limon. We had 3 days in Costa Rica, and spent New Year’s Eve at the Mirador Quetzales lodge in the cloud forest. Next morning we started the year with Resplendent Quetzal and numerous hummingbirds. The next two nights were spent at the Selva Bananito Lodge near the east coast.

We left Costa Rica and cruised through the Panama Canal and moored off Panama City. We had a trip to the famous Canopy Tower in Panama and had a local guide.

We then cruised down the west coast of South America, calling at the Galapagos Islands, and the town of Arica in northern Chile before disembarking at Valparaiso.

Here, we had hired a couple of guides who took up up into the Andes to see some high altitude birds. Next day, we flew to Buenos Aires to join the M.V. Saga Rose for a cruise to Antarctica, the Falkland Islands and Chilean Fjords.
